Glossary

Key terms and acronyms

AI
Artificial Intelligence — software systems that perform tasks typically requiring human reasoning, language understanding or pattern recognition.
EMIS
Education Management Information System — the national system that holds school, learner and staff data.
MDRS
Minimum Digital Readiness Standard — the baseline conditions a school must meet before digital tools are deployed at scale.
MARS
Minimum AI Readiness Standard — the additional conditions a school or system must meet before AI-dependent tools are deployed.
REDPS
Regional Education Data Protection Standard — the Caribbean data protection rules that apply to every endorsed digital or AI tool.
RCB
Regional Coordination Body — the Caribbean institution that maintains regional standards, the Approved Tool Registry and annual analyses.
National Focal Point
The senior Ministry official with explicit decision rights for digital and AI in education, who is the national counterpart to the RCB.
Approved Tool Registry
The public registry of digital and AI tools endorsed for use in CMSAT schools, with published rationale, conditions and review dates.
Interoperability
The ability of different systems and tools to exchange data and work together reliably.
Data Sovereignty
The principle that data generated in a jurisdiction is governed by that jurisdiction's laws and institutions.
Safeguarding
The set of measures that protect children and young people from harm in digital and physical learning environments.
Readiness-Gated Implementation
Sequencing rollout so that schools and systems advance when they meet defined readiness conditions, with targeted support for those further behind.
